October 2023 More flooding

With heavy rain over a wide area and high tides the River Tay was very full. Sadly for some reason the flood gate on the North Inch was not shut and so the sports facilities and many houses were flooded.

September 2022 – floods!

On 8th September it rained heavily in Perth for three hours. I had never seen such rain. In the afternoon and the next day we went out for walks and saw the damage that had been caused. Small streams had turned into raging torrents and washed their surroundings away. Cars had been swept down roads, driveways destroyed. Nobody was hurt but the damage will take time to repair and enlarged channels are needed for some of the streams.

A local enterprising farm has created a sunflower trail for visitors to enjoy. The trail was made using GPS techniques in the form of a map of Scotland. We had fun walking around it surrounded by a sea of sunflowers which were mostly facing in the same direction. An unusual thing to do in Scotland.

In Perth there are allotments on Moncreiffe island in the middle of the Tay. At the end of July they had an open day complete with live music and produce sales. So interesting to see what everyone has done with their space.
