Calgary in the Canadian province of Alberta lies in the transition zone between the Canadian Rockies foothills and the Canadian Prairies at the confluence of the Bow River and Elbow River. The inner city has many highrise buildings. Further out the buildings are generally in neat grids. To the west the land begins to undulate and the jagged peaks of the rockies are clearly seen. To the east the land is flat and a checker board of huge, regular fields, golden in autumn, pale yellow brown in winter.
