Iceland – Thingvellir

Thingvellir (assembly fields) is the site of Iceland’s historic democratic parliament founded in 930AD. It lies in a rift valley caused by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Today it is in a national park and the site of Thingvellir Church.
