The area around the far northwest of Scotland is a military zone. However it is possible to visit the Cape Wrath lighthouse in the summer by taking a ferry and minibus tour. This I did in August 2018 on a dreich, showery day. It was a memorable trip though, starting with an open ‘bucket’ ferry followed by a bumpy 12 mile ride to the Lighthouse. The unfarmed land en route was surprisingly colourful and varied.
